Commercial Roof Inspections in Kansas City, Missouri for Wind Damage Insurance Claims After Tornado on June 7, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration

Four tornados touched down in Kansas City on Tuesday, June 7th, cutting down trees, and power lines and badly damaging residential and commercial buildings. Early news reports indicate winds topped 100 mph, and RestoreMasters has commercial roof inspection experts in Kansas City to fast-track wind damage insurance claims and implement emergency roof repair measures.
Early reports pointed to an EF1 tornado that plowed through Johnson County, Kansas, into Jackson County, Missouri, overnight. NBC affiliate KSHB 41 indicated that a second and more ferocious twister wreaked havoc as it drove winds of 115 mph and cut more than a 9-mile path, 200 yards wide through Johnson County and into Jackson County, causing widespread roof wind damage, downing trees, and leaving thousands without power.
“Evergy reports almost 30,000 customers without power. Independence Power and Light reports more than 1,850 customers without power. The Board of Public Utilities in Wyandotte County has 51 customers without power,” according to KSHB 41.
Reports indicate Buckner sustained heavy property damage, and all impacted property owners are urged to request a complimentary commercial roof inspection and promptly file a wind damage insurance claim so that a roof repair contractor can secure your building.
A local map of the tornado in Kansas City shows a massive light gray storm front blanketing the region. The extreme winds are shown stretching as far west in Kansas as Reno and Tonganoxie in Leavenworth County. The tornado damage map also extends as far east as Buckner, Orrick, and well beyond Lee’s Summit to the south.

The National Weather Service hail, high wind, and tornado damage map shows a densely concentrated storm cluster across Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri, with fronts dipping into North Texas and isolated severe weather trailing through Alabama and Tennessee.
National reporting accounted for 221 high wind incidents, 220 hailstorms, and 17 tornados, inflicting substantial property damage that required immediate commercial roof inspection services and repairs. Wide-reaching reports illustrate the following areas suffered property and roof wind damage in the Greater Kansas City area.
- Buckner: Johnson County, MO, was reportedly hit by the more devastating tornado of the four in the storm cell. The EF2 sent debris flying at 115 mph as it cut a trench 9 miles long and two football fields wide.
- Leewood: Drone footage shows a tree that fell on a house near 95th Street and Belinder Road.
- Lenexa: An EF1 tornado cut a 14-mile path more than a football field wide across Johnson County, KS. Branches covered the Santa Fe Trail and a large tree was downed on Kessler.
- Mound City: Trees were toppled in areas of Holt County, MO.
- Rockport: High winds ripped down tree limbs on Highway 111 in Atchison County, MO.
- Valley Falls: A tree two feet in diameter was snapped in half by tornado winds in Jefferson County, MO.
- Wagstaff: Miami County, KS, saw winds peak at 80 mph as a twister ripped a 75-yard swath.
- Winchester: Limbs were routinely severed from trees, some as large as eight inches around.
After a tornado impacts a community, it’s crucial to have a comprehensive, no-cost commercial roof inspection completed. When a twister ravages an area, the vacuum-like force can cause roof wind damage to structures that did not sustain a direct hit. RestoreMasters recently dispatched emergency roof repair crews to Southern Indiana to support property owners making wind and hail damage insurance claims after storms hit on May 19, 2022.
Severe storms, bringing hail, strong winds, or tornadoes can cause severe roof damage, by ripping off roofing systems. Some older roofs can be damaged by winds as low as 50 miles per hour. The severity of roof damage depends on several factors including: type and age of roofing materials, presence of flying debris, roof shape and angle, building height and proximity to adjacent structures and the quality of original roof installation.
