The dense orange section over Oconomowoc shows ice chunks up to 1.75 inches in diameter, pounding neighborhoods, and business districts.

“A strong thunderstorm developed in northwest Waukesha County Friday evening around 5:30 pm and kept back-building over the Oconomowoc area,” according to the National Weather Service. “The storm dropped accumulating hail, with some hail stones as large as golf balls! Hail fell for 20 to 30 minutes. The area received 2.5 inches of rain within a two-hour period of time. Localized street flooding was observed, mainly due to hail clogging storm drains.”
The Friday, June 10th, tornado, high wind, and hail damage map published by the National Weather Service shows a hailstorm cluster specifically targeting Oconomowoc, WI, and the surrounding area. All told, there were 78 high wind incidents, one tornado, and 15 hailstorm reports for the day. A range of social media and traditional news reports demonstrate Waukesha County took the brunt of the hailstorm.
- Lac La Belle: Hailstones the size of half-dollars cracked shingles and dented metal roofing systems.
- Oconomowoc: Golf ball-sized hail relentlessly pelted automobiles and rooftops for 20-30 minutes.
It’s imperative that commercial buildings undergo a comprehensive commercial roof inspection following a hailstorm. The dents and cracks left after the storm passes invite water damage and hazardous mold growths. By promptly utilizing commercial roof inspection services, property owners can expedite insurance claims to cover the cost of necessary hail damage roof repair.
Taking proactive measures to correct roof storm damage can save tens of thousands of dollars on building restoration and remediation later. RestoreMasters recently dispatched commercial roof repair experts to Worthington, Minnesota, on May 28, 2022, to provide material support following a devastating hailstorm.
Some roofing systems can be severely harmed by damage from heavy winds, tornadoes, or hail.
Some older roofs can be damaged by winds as low as 50 miles per hour.
Roof damage can be severe or mild, depending on various factors which include: materials used on the roof, impact of debris, building height and proximity to other buildings, age, angle and shape of the roof and type of roofing.
Getting a roof inspection & property damage assessment after severe weather like this is important for determining whether you need to address roof damage from hail or high winds.
Circumstances do not always allow for immediate repair of roof leaks. In the meantime, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can cover the roof or affected area with a tarp or with a durable plastic shrink wrap material, until such a time when more permanent repairs can be made. We need to stop more moisture damage, so we can prevent mold growth.
If your property was anywhere within the storm damage map, it would be best to get your roof inspected, even if you think your roof was not damaged.
Many storm damage symptoms are not always evident immediately.
And deadlines from insurance companies could hinder you from filing a claim later.
