Upwards of 14 tornadoes and high-wind incidents were confirmed tearing roofs off buildings and uprooting trees on Friday, Nov. 4th, leaving property owners in dire need of emergency roof repair and commercial roof inspection services.

The number of twisters that touched down hasn’t been seen in the Natural State in over a decade, and RestoreMasters commercial roofing specialists are in the area to help ailing residents. Impacted property owners can contact a contractor at the roof repair office in Ardmore, OK, for prompt assistance.

“An EF2 tears the roof off of a well-built single-family home. Pretty much the only difference between an EF2 and an EF3 is whether or not the walls are still standing,” Dennis Cavanaugh, National Weather Service meteorologist in North Little Rock, reportedly said. “We saw roofs off homes and barns and other outbuildings completely destroyed. With roofs gone, that rain could get in and cause even more damage.”

Commercial property owners are urged to request a complimentary roof inspection to document the damage in support of an insurance claim. It’s also important to have a commercial roof inspection conducted when a tornado passes through an area. That’s largely because flying debris and the vacuum it creates lifts flat roofing materials, tugs metal panels, and loosens fasteners. Insurance carriers are more likely to approve a report detailed by a commercial roof inspection services firm promptly after the storm passes.

A local map of the tornadoes in Arkansas shows four gray sections indicating tornadoes and intense winds crossed communities such as Texarkana, Little Rock, Hope, Searcy, Benton, and areas north of De Queen. The fast-moving storm fronts left widespread roof wind damage to commercial, agricultural, and institutional buildings.

The National Weather Service high wind, hailstorm, and tornado damage map for Friday, Nov. 4th, shows intense storm clusters covering Northeast Texas, Louisiana, Southeast Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Isolated storms hovered over Missouri, Iowa, and Wisconsin. All told, there were 73 high wind incidents, 29 hailstorms, and 48 tornadoes recorded for the day. Local and national reports highlighted Arkansas, where some of the worst damage was inflicted.

  • Baxter County: Snapped and uprooted trees blocked sections of Highways 62, 5, and 178. Numerous county roads required crews to clear large branches and debris. A vacant building collapsed, and roofs were torn off commercial buildings.
  • Carroll County: The roof of a grocery store sustained roof wind damage.
  • Hempstead County: Fierce straight-line winds overturned a tractor-trailer on I-30 at the bridge over The Red River.
  • Hot Spring County: An EF-1 touched down west of Ridge Road near the County Seat of Malvern. The twister uprooted trees and damaged metal buildings.
  • Howard County: At least two residential roofs were badly damaged along Highway 26.
  • Lonoke County: High winds downed trees in Furlow and Cabot.
  • Pulaski County: Metal roofs were reportedly torn off as twisters passed through the region. Mature trees were downed across power lines in Gibson and structures sustained damage in Saline.
  • Yell County: Agricultural buildings took heavy roof wind damage throughout the county.

Anytime wind or roof hail damage occurs, a prompt commercial roof inspection can help fast-track a claim while short-term measures are implemented to prevent unnecessary water damage. RestoreMasters responded to Fort Smith, Arkansas, after an October 15, 2022, storm caused roof hail damage.

Severe storms, bringing hail, strong winds, or tornadoes can cause severe roof damage, by ripping off roofing systems.

Older roofs are susceptible to severe wind damage, by winds as low as 50 mph.

The severity of roof damage depends on several factors including: type and age of roofing materials, presence of flying debris, roof shape and angle, building height and proximity to adjacent structures and the quality of original roof installation.

After a severe storm of hail or high winds, it is important to get your roof inspected, and have a property damage assessment report so that you can learn whether you have damage to your roofing system.

If roof leaks do occur, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can stop leaks with tarping or shrink wrapping, where affected areas (or the entire roof) are covered with a durable shrink-wrapped plastic membrane till permanent repairs can take place. That way you can prevent mold growth from water intrusion.

Even if you don't think your roof was damaged, you will want to get your roof inspected if your property falls anywhere within the hail damage map.

Some storm damage symptoms take time to appear.

And insurance companies sometimes enforce deadlines for claims, so you need to get your claim filed quickly.
