Disaster Restoration Contractors On The Scene After A Tornado Ripped Through Wichita, Kansas On April 29, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration

Buildings were destroyed and homes blown down, with rubble and debris scattered throughout Wichita, Kansas on Friday afternoon. This tornado was rated EF-3 based on the damage survey, which indicates that the wind speed was 136-165 mph. This tornado brought memories to those who lived in the area 31 years ago when Wichita was wrecked by an EF-5. It took many years to recover from that and 17 lives were lost. This event produced only a few injuries and no lives lost. A resident of the area, told CNN that she sheltered in her neighbors' basement across the street from her apartment complex. She said, “I just couldn’t believe it. It just didn’t look real. We stepped out of our front door, and it was coming straight to our place.” It ended up missing her home by a block but power in the neighborhood was cut off. Over 20,000 homes and businesses were without power. Fifty to one hundred structures were damaged. This was one of 15 tornadoes that touched down on this day, 14 were in the Kansas-Nebraska area. In addition, there were many reports of wind and hail, even up to 4 inches in diameter in neighboring areas. RestoreMasters immediately dispatched disaster restoration contractors into the area to assist with clean-up and restoration. Kansas has been having a number of severe storms recently, they were just in the process of recovering from one only a week ago.
The hail & tornado map of the Wichita, KS area indicates hail covering Wichita and areas northeast (yellow and orange), the largest fell over Wichita, up to 2” in diameter (dark orange). Dark black lines indicate the path of 3 tornadoes that hit the area, the most prominent, with the longest path being the one running from Andover to Wichita. Its path was 12.75 miles and the maximum width was 440 yards.

Social media blew up with dramatic videos and images, from news centers and residents:

A screenshot I did of the @ReedTimmerAccu stream NE of Andover, KS. Eerily reminiscent of the 1991 Andover tornado. Thoughts and prayers for the people affected. Incredibly emotional for someone who grew up Kansas, with family near the Wichita area. Dear lord. #kswx pic.twitter.com/HHpqF0smb0

Disasters are not easy to process and when your property is damaged or destroyed it becomes hard to make sense of everything. It is a huge help to have the expertise of disaster restoration contractors from RestoreMasters providing assistance. No one should have to navigate this alone. RestoreMasters wants to encourage everyone to be very cautious when inspecting or cleaning up property, as damaged buildings and even damaged trees or branches may not be visibly compromised and requires the eyes of experts to identify potential problems that need immediate attention. The teams will provide quick emergency repairs until such a time when full repairs can be accomplished.
Strong winds can rip open some roofing systems and cause severe roof wind damage. Older roofs are susceptible to severe wind damage, by winds as low as 50 mph. The intensity of roof damage is determined by various factors: the velocity and impact of flying debris, the quality of the original installation, the building height and location in relation to other buildings, the angle and shape of the roof, and the material used on the roof.
