Hurricane Damage Restoration Contractors Hard at Work on Isolated Sanibel Island, FL

Oct 5, 2022

DALLAS, TEXAS -- Hurricane Ian rocked Sanibel Island, FL, leaving unprecedented destruction and a critical need for hurricane damage restoration contractors to secure rooftops and implement water removal efforts. With the Sanibel Causeway Bridge closed, RestoreMasters transported emergency roofing teams and building restoration materials by barge. That Herculean effort prevented further water damage losses to condominiums and commercial buildings from thunderstorms.

“Sanibel Island was crushed. When our teams arrived, we went right to work cleaning up properties and helping to dry-in roofs that were still leaking water. We’ll be here for months,” RestoreMasters owner Matt Irvin said.

The island off the coast of Fort Myers relies on the narrow causeway to remain connected to the mainland. Hurricane Ian battered the 40-foot-wide bridge over the San Carlos Bay. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis expedited bridge repair to allow utility trucks to restore power to the isolated community.

“At my direction, @MyFDOT has expedited the temporary repair of the Sanibel Causeway to allow a one-time convoy of trucks to augment power restoration efforts,” Gov. DeSantis tweeted. “Further repairs to the causeway will commence after the convoy. FDOT is working to restore access to the public ASAP.”

But even fast-tracked bridge repair in a disaster zone can take weeks, if not months.

RestoreMasters demonstrated why the organization earned a national reputation as industry-leading hurricane damage restoration contractors. The organization’s rapid response team is currently supporting debris cleanup efforts, while its commercial roofing crews are engaged in securing the gaping holes in roofs and extracting moisture from building before rot and decay. Warm temperatures and unchecked humidity can also spur hazardous black mold growths that threaten residents’ health and safety.

The national commercial roofing and building restoration outfit has a history of responding to catastrophic events to support ailing communities. When Hurricane Laura and Ida pounded the Louisiana coast, RestoreMasters sent dozens of crews to some of the hardest hit areas to help mitigate damage and rebuild structures from the ground up in some cases.

They implemented emergency roofing strategies such as tarping and shrink wrapping to prevent rain from soaking rafters, load-bearing walls, and contents. The determined commercial roofing crews remained in the disaster zones to conduct hurricane cleanup measures, secure perimeters, conduct water removal, and rebuild buildings. Just as they are on Sanibel Island, hard-working RestoreMasters teams endured conditions with limited supplies and housing shortages.

Despite the adversity, these restoration professionals plan to remain on the island until water removal, roofing systems, windows, doors, and other structural elements are repaired or replaced. Going above and beyond the call in support of ailing communities are reasons why RestoreMasters is ranked among the Top 100 Roofing Contractors in America and listed on the Inc. 5000 List of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies.

Although Sanibel Island property owners were cut off from the mainland for an extended period, RestoreMasters continues to ferry in commercial roofing and building materials and take on projects of all sizes. If your Sanibel Island condominium, commercial building, or house of worship sustained hurricane Ian damage, the RestoreMasters network works with insurance companies on complex claims and is currently providing cleanup, roofing, water removal, and complete building restoration services.
