Hey, thanks for tuning in. My name is Olivia, I’m with RestoreMasters and today we are here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa doing this job at Blair Place Plaza. With two buildings, we have this one right here, and this one right here that we’re completing as well. It’s a trapezoidal standing seam metal roof system.
The reason that we’re at this job here today, is because of a hail storm that happened back in April, 2020. Now this job particularly falls right in the hail map of where the hailstone fell. So we reached out to the owner to do a preliminary damage inspection on the roof. Once we completed the inspection, we met him out here on the job site to go over everything that we found. Now, before he decided to move forward with us, he wanted to check out our references and make sure that we were legit. One of those references that we gave him was our metal manufacturer, now because of the quality of the work that we produce, we won National Contractor of the Year for metal, with our manufacturer. So once he found that out, it was a no-brainer. The guys are up on the roof now, let’s go ahead and check it out.
Before we head up to the roof I want you to notice these guys behind me that are disconnecting the gas lines. Now with this job we have gas lines running all across the roof, so we’ll have to remove those as well as detaching all of the AC units, that way we can remove and replace the metal properly and safely.
We’re up here on top of this trapezoidal metal roof system. Now to the untrained eye, it looks like it’s in great shape, right? But one of the tricks of the trade that we use is something as simple as chalk. So we apply the chalk, all right, now you may think that a dent like this in your metal roof is no big deal. But the reality is, that every metal roofing panel that is produced comes with a finish on the surface. Some of those finishes are 20 years, some are 30 years, and some are 40 years. This is a 40 year metal finish, right? When the hail impacts that surface, it causes what’s called micro fractures in that metal surface. Now, when the rain and the elements run down the metal, it cools in that dent, getting to that unfinished metal, which causes rust to formulate, which is originally why the metal has that surface put on it to protect it.
Another reason that these small dents make such a big deal is when it comes time to renew your policy, your insurance agent is going to send out an inspector to look at the condition that your roofing system is in. Now, just like with your car, they do not want to insure, something that has damage. So if they come out and they find dents to this roof, it’s highly likely that they are going to drop your full coverage and you do not want that to happen.
All right, as you can see the job going on behind me, we’ve got our crew started. Now, this job is fairly complex. We have multiple penetrations in this roof. We’ve got multiple AC units. We’ve got multiple events. So the crew requires a certain level of skill that has to be had in order to complete this project properly. Now, what we’re going back with, is a six inch vinyl back insulation on top. We’re going back with a 24 gauge trapezoidal, standing seam metal, which was previously here. We’re also removing all of the siding on these walls here to put flashing underneath. And then we’re going to go back on top of the moisture barrier and metal so that there’re no leaks.
So to recap this job we met with the owner. We identified the hail damage on the roof. We met with the insurance company and got them to agree, to pay for a full replacement. Now that we’re completing the job, which has been very complex, the owner is completely happy. Now, if you have a project that’s extremely complex like this one, or if you just need a roof inspection, or if you need help through the process, give us a call, and we’d be happy to help you. Thanks for watching this video.
