Hey guys. Thanks for watching this video today. We’re here in Shawnee, Oklahoma at Oklahoma Baptist University, and we’re going to be completing two repairs. The first is going to be on a historic terracotta tile roof on their chapel and then the second is going to be on a ballasted flat roofing system. Let’s go check it out.
So the reason that we’re here today is because of a hailstorm that happened back in May of this year, that affected all 40 of their buildings. Now we reached out to the president of the university to complete a damage assessment report on all of their buildings. So once we completed that, we met with the board to show them what we found.
At the board meeting, it was brought to our attention that there were some repairs that had to be completed right away, instead of waiting for the approval of the insurance company. So prior to moving forward with us, they wanted to check out our references and previously completed jobs on roofs similar to this historic clay tile. So once they did that, they decided that moving forward with RestoreMasters was the best choice for their college.
So we’re up here on one of the flat roofs where we’re completing the repairs around the edges. Now you can see here on all of this exposed modified bitumen, you can see there are multiple hail hits to the building. Now, unfortunately, because of the age of this roof, there’s also multiple areas where the seams are beginning to separate. So instead of waiting for full approval from the insurance company, we’re going ahead and completing these repairs so they don’t have water continuing to come in under the membrane.
So this is what happens to a roof when it’s not properly maintained. You can see this is modified bitumen R right here. Water has gotten up under the membrane and has pooled underneath creating a whole water bed like bubble underneath the membrane. So we’re drying it out now. All of the water’s removed. After it’s dry, we’re going to go ahead and apply tar and seal it all back up so that there’s no leaks.
So up here on the terracotta tile roof, as you can see, this is what occurs when a storm impacts terracotta tile. You can see there are multiple dislodged tiles. There are multiple broken tiles. The guys down here are repairing the ones that are broken down there. These ones will follow as well as the ridge caps.
So to recap this job, there was a hailstorm that came through. We reached out to the owners and did a preliminary damage assessment on the buildings. Now that the claim is underway, we’ve completed the temporary repairs on the terracotta tile as well as the flat roofs, so that there are no leaks during the process.
If you have a building or multiple buildings with multiple different kinds of roofing systems, and you don’t know if you have damage, or if you just want a free damage assessment, give us a call. We’d be more than happy to come and check it out. Thanks for watching.
