Custom Stone Coated Steel Roof

My name is Jace King. I’m a project manager with AAA Roof Masters RestoreMasters. We’re here in front of a project that we have going on in Northern Florida, right on the St. John’s River. So, the reason we are here today is back in January of 2017, a tornado rode through the backyard of this house, took down a tree, damaged the roof, the deck, and side of the house. Since then, this has been an open claim.

The insurance company gave him a repair check and said, you know, good luck. After two years, we stepped in and took us 45 days to get this approved and started. So the original roof that was on this house was a stone coated steel material. It’s stamped metal with granules adhered to it. A couple of those panels were damaged when the tree fell. That manufacturer is now out of business, they’ve been bought out.

So they don’t make that tile anymore. It was actually quite the process to get it approved, but we decided to go ahead and redo everything. As we were taking off the old stone coated steel panels, as you can see here, there are shingles, batten systems. There’s even insulation on some of the more steep areas of the roof.

Due to Florida building code and how strict it is, all those layers had to come off. We took off all the shingles, the tiles, the batten systems. There were even some layers that had flat roof, tar and gravel. All that had to go. We started to rebuild the top of the house from scratch. Being a custom built home, the house actually has cathedral ceilings, cedar plank ceilings with ISO board on top of it with a layer of shingles, a batten system, and stone coated steel on top of that.

Everything had to be removed before we could start rebuilding again. We had special panels made from the manufacturer to fit each multi-hit turret. We take a lot of care in the houses that we help restore. This isn’t your run of the mill home. This is a custom home.
