Tornadoes drove high winds and hailstones, taking Northeast Texas by surprise as storms escalated well beyond meteorologist predictions on Friday, Nov. 4th. Emergency roof repair crews have been dispatched to the area after wind speeds reached 170 mph and tornadoes were upgraded to EF-4. RestoreMasters roofing contractors are fielding calls and commercial building owners can contact them at the roof repair office in Dallas, TX.

“The severe weather that dumped rain across the Dallas-Fort Worth area Friday was also responsible for at least nine tornadoes in Texas. The National Weather Service spent the weekend surveying damage in Lamar and Henderson Counties,” according to Fox 4. “They determined at an EF-3 tornado with winds up to 160 miles per hour touched down in Powderly in Lamar County. Officials said it destroyed a total of 32 homes and other structures. An additional 41 buildings suffered major damage.”

Commercial, agricultural, and institutional building owners are urged to request a complimentary roof inspection. High winds, hailstone strikes, and flying debris can result in subtle damage that requires an experienced commercial roof inspection services professional to identify and document in support of an insurance claim.

A local map of the tornado damage shows a long gray, high-wind front moved across Northeast Texas. Black lines indicate upwards of nine tornadoes touched down. The yellow and orange clusters demonstrate ice chunks ranging from 1.25 to 1.75 inches inflicted hail roof damage.

The National Weather Service high wind, hailstorm, and tornado damage map for Friday, Nov. 4th, shows intense storm clusters covering Northeast Texas, Louisiana, Southeast Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Isolated storms hovered over Missouri, Iowa, and Wisconsin. All told, there were 73 high wind incidents, 29 hailstorms, and 48 tornadoes recorded for the day. Traditional and social media reports highlighted the hail and wind roof damage sustained across Northeast Texas.

  • Cumby: Golf ball-sized hailstones pounded rooftops and automobiles.
  • Detroit: Mature trees were snapped in half and utility poles were toppled. Storm spotters confirmed the damage was caused by a twister.
  • De Kalb: Trees were downed along the I-30 corridor.
  • Farmersville: Hail the size of golf balls cracked roofing shingles.
  • Grapevine: Wind gusts tore away shingles after exceeding 60 mph in Tarrant County.
  • Hughes Springs: An EF-1 inflicted substantial damage within the city limits.
  • Lincoln Park: Wind gusts of 53 mph downed utility poles.
  • New Boston: Images posted on social media showed signs of widespread property damage.
  • Pittsburg: A tornado and supercell plowed through Camp County.
  • Point: The Rains County community was struck by ice the size of baseballs as residents took shelter.
  • Quinlan: Areas of Hunt County were peppered by hail the size of quarters.

At least 13 people were hospitalized after 170-mph winds ripped through Lamar County, leveling buildings and leaving others in urgent need of emergency roof repair. In Hopkins County, winds topped 120 mph.

RestoreMasters routinely secures impacted buildings and field teams are available to conduct a comprehensive commercial roof inspection. Emergency roof repair teams and inspectors responded to Fort Stockton, TX on October 10, 2022, to fix roof hail damage after a storm and flooding impacted the area.

Some roofing systems can be severely harmed by damage from heavy winds, tornadoes, or hail. Some older roofs can be damaged by winds as low as 50 miles per hour. The intensity of roof damage is determined by various factors: the velocity and impact of flying debris, the quality of the original installation, the building height and location in relation to other buildings, the angle and shape of the roof, and the material used on the roof.

Getting a roof inspection & property damage assessment after severe weather like this is important for determining whether you need to address roof damage from hail or high winds. Circumstances do not always allow for immediate repair of roof leaks. In the meantime, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can cover the roof or affected area with a tarp or with a durable plastic shrink wrap material, until such a time when more permanent repairs can be made. We need to stop more moisture damage, so we can prevent mold growth.
Get your roof inspected, even if you think there is no problem, especially if your property falls anywhere within the area of the hail and wind damage map. Some storm damage problems do not produce symptoms right away. And insurance companies sometimes enforce deadlines for claims, so you need to get your claim filed quickly.
