Commercial Roof Inspections Saint Petersburg, FL for Tornado Damage Insurance Claims After Storm on December 15, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration

An EF-1 tornado touched down in Saint Petersburg Thursday, Dec. 15th, leaving a wake of property and roof wind damage. RestoreMasters has field crews in Pinellas County to roll out emergency roof repair techniques designed to prevent further losses.
Commercial roof inspection services professionals are also on the ground to help impacted property owners identify damage and fast-track insurance claims. Property owners who suffered losses or suspect the cyclone compromised their roofing system are encouraged to call the roof repair office in Tampa, FL.
“Meteorologists determined it was an EF1 tornado, producing winds around 100 miles per hour. The tornado was about 300 feet wide and its track was about a quarter of a mile long, the weather service said. The St. Petersburg Police Department said 9th Avenue North is closed from 54th to 57th Street North due to a weather event that damaged a building and church. Police are advising people to avoid the area,” the Tampa Bay Times reported.
It’s essential for commercial property owners to request a complimentary roof inspection even if they did not sustain a direct hit. Twisters generate centrifugal force that pulls on objects outside their path. They also throw hard debris at gutters, roof sealants, and siding. The same holds true of roof hail damage.
Having a commercial roof inspection performed following a severe weather event documents property damage. The report serves as a vital document that backs an insurance claim.
A local map of the tornado in Saint Petersburg shows a black line where the tornado touched down and trekked across Pinellas County. It runs from Treasure Island, west of Route 699, and follows a northeast trajectory across Route 693 and 19.

A National Weather Service high wind, hailstorm, and tornado map for Thursday, Dec. 15th, shows a cluster of storms hovering over Florida’s Gulf Coast. A full accounting indicates there were seven high-wind incidents and one tornado, all in Florida. Traditional and social media reports highlighted the property and roof storm damage in the Saint Petersburg area.
- Gulfport: Mature trees were downed, with one collapsing on a building and damaging the roof.
- Kenneth City: At least two buildings were damaged as the twister cut a path near 16th Avenue N. and 55th Street N.
- Lutz: Pool cages and fences were destroyed in the Hillsborough County community. Extensive roof damage included shingles being peeled off by high winds.
- St. Petersburg: A tress fell on the roof of the All Children’s Academy. St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to multiple downed and uprooted trees along 9th Avenue North, between 58th Street and 49th Street.
- Masaryktown: An agricultural building suffered damage and large oak trees were snapped near Ayers Road And Culbreath Road.
- Weeki Wachee Acre: A gas station awning was damaged as high winds extended into Hernando County.
Flooding was reported by law enforcement as streets were deemed impassable. RestoreMasters dispatched restoration contractors to Sanibel Island, FL, after Hurricane Ian destroyed buildings and left the community isolated.
Some roofing systems can be severely harmed by damage from heavy winds, tornadoes, or hail. Some older roofs can sustain damage from only 50 mph winds. The severity of roof damage depends on several factors including: type and age of roofing materials, presence of flying debris, roof shape and angle, building height and proximity to adjacent structures and the quality of original roof installation.
